Ella(she/they) lives for helping audiences understand characters and helping performers understand themselves. Their performances invite audiences from different backgrounds and experiences to understand the characters she embodies through careful cultivation of presence, listening to those around her, and a deep understanding of the play's text.
Ella grew up in Ashland, Oregon, which cultivated a deep love for all types of theatre, but particularly Shakespeare adaptations that encourage reflection on current day issues. She is a recent graduate of the Theatre Department at Willamette University, where she also studied Women’s and Gender Studies. She craves shifting societal ideas about what gender can look like by teaching kids they can be what ever they want to be from a young age and performing as many genders as possible.
They create with production teams that are diverse, passionate, and fiercely collaborative. She believes that the most engaging theatre (and effective education) comes from generous, thoughtful collaboration and listening. They aim to create theatre in which everyone advocates for each other, and for themselves–where transformation and understanding are mutually fostered.
